The author learned from the China Chemical Fiber Industry Association a few days ago that at present, China's fiber industry is accelerating the exploration of a green manufacturing system with cleaner production, green certification, and circular development as the core, and is committed to establishing a "Weather vane" for green and low-carbon development from the textile source, reducing Carbon footprint output, and promoting the green transformation of the entire textile industry chain.
Green fibers refer to chemical fibers that originate from biomass or recyclable raw materials, are low-carbon and environmentally friendly in the production process, and have no environmental pollution or can be recycled after being discarded. In the era of global pursuit of green development, green fiber is not only seen by many brands as a part of achieving 100% sustainable use of textile raw materials, but also as a green industry that can improve the environmental performance of the industrial chain supply chain and reduce environmental impacts. The increasing popularity of industries has quickly brought green fibers to the forefront.
According to statistics, compared to native polyester fibers, every 1 ton of recycled polyester produced can replace 6-8 tons of native polyester. It can be seen that developing green fibers is a necessary path for the sustainable development of China's chemical fiber industry.
The country has also actively introduced relevant industrial policies to support the development of the green fiber industry. On April 11 this year, the National Development and Reform Commission and other three departments issued the Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Recycling of Waste Textiles, which pointed out the direction for the construction of the resource recycling system of the Textile manufacturing and put forward a series of specific goals.
On April 21st, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued the "Guiding Opinions on the High Quality Development of the Chemical Fiber Industry" (hereinafter referred to as the "Guiding Opinions"), deploying the task of green and low-carbon transformation: the green manufacturing system continues to improve, the proportion of green fibers increases to over 25%, the annual growth rate of bio based chemical fibers and degradable fiber materials exceeds 20%, and the comprehensive utilization level and scale of waste resources further develop, The industry intensity has significantly decreased.
A series of specific digital goals have identified the driving force for the development of China's green fiber industry, ushering in an opportunity period for its development.
However, opportunities always coexist with challenges, and the constraints faced in industrial development cannot be ignored. A person in charge of a company revealed to reporters that currently, a major category of green fibers, recycled polyester fibers, is developing rapidly. Downstream brand merchants' demand has increased by over 20% per year, but the overall production capacity of recycled polyester fibers is still in the climbing stage. In a situation where supply is in short supply, many fiber companies are facing problems such as counterfeit raw polyester fibers and recycled polyester fibers in the market, as well as incomplete traceability chains, substandard products, unclear proportions, and inconsistent regulatory standards and testing methods.
Industry insiders told reporters that due to the low entry threshold, large number of enterprises, large industrial scale, and fierce market competition of recycled polyester fibers in China, some enterprises pursue profits and label their raw fiber products as recycled polyester fibers, impersonating them as recycled polyester fibers for sale in the market.
The person revealed that after attaching the label of recycled polyester fiber to the raw fiber, the market price can increase by 1000-2000 yuan per ton, and some can even reach as high as 6000-7000 yuan per ton. He said, for example, that raw fiber and recycled polyester fiber are like inorganic vegetables and organic vegetables, and there is no difference in appearance, but there are great differences in production processes, technological processes, cost inputs, environmental protection values, etc. In the long run, there will be a huge hidden danger of "Gresham's law", which will seriously damage the healthy and orderly development of China's green industry.
The relevant person in charge of the China Chemical Fiber Industry Association stated that although China has a complete ecological chain of recycled polyester fiber industry, it lacks a renewable traceability system and reliable certification system. In order to fully leverage the social responsibility of enterprises in the renewable industry, enhance the certification and collaborative efficiency of upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain, and firmly enhance the industry status and influence of China's renewable ecological field, it is of great significance and urgency to establish a green fiber product trust platform and build a technologically advanced and efficient collaborative renewable trust platform.
In January of this year, under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the trusted system of China's recycled textile industry - the Green Fiber Products Trusted Platform (STCP) was officially launched online. This platform is jointly operated by the China Chemical Fiber Industry Association and the National Advanced Functional Fiber Innovation Center.
It is reported that from 2022 to 2023, the platform will undergo external expansion and connotation extension, continuously improve platform functions, expand platform service content, gradually deepen through digital trusted transformation, and improve digital trusted solutions through top-level design to achieve reliable data access to the industrial chain. It is expected that by 2024, the platform will enable the entire industry chain to carry out Digital transformation and upgrading, expand the value of the platform, create benefits, and participate in the customization of industry rules to create China's own transparent, traceable and reliable certification platform, maintain the order of green fiber and green textile markets, and ultimately build the platform into an international first-class certification platform.
