Faced with new development patterns and challenges, the positioning of the chemical fiber industry is also undergoing profound changes. In April of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued the Guiding Opinions on the High Quality Development of the Chemical Fiber Industry, pointing out that the chemical fiber industry is the core support for the stable development and continuous innovation of the textile industry chain, an internationally competitive advantage industry, and an important component of the new materials industry. Xia Nong, a first level inspector of the Industry Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated at the 28th China International Chemical Fiber Conference, "This positioning is a new judgment made on the positioning of the chemical fiber industry based on in-depth analysis of the new historical stage of China's chemical fiber industry, comprehensive understanding and grasp of the important role of the chemical fiber industry. This will definitely give new tasks and put forward new requirements for the development of the chemical fiber industry

In the new development situation, how should the chemical fiber industry consolidate its advantages, supplement its weaknesses, and strengthen its strengths and weaknesses? He Yaqiong, Director of the Consumer Products Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that firstly, we will deepen the supply side structural reform and implement the "three products" strategy of increasing variety, improving quality, and creating brands. We need to enhance the resilience of the supply system, lead and create demand with high-quality supply, and promote industrial upgrading, product upgrading, and consumption upgrading. We should attach great importance to the role of "brand", expand the influence of "China's fiber trend", "green fiber" and other work, enhance consumers' awareness of Chinese fibers and enterprises, further collaborate with clothing and home textile enterprises to strengthen the cultivation of advantageous brands, and expand demand and maintain supply chain security and stability through brand building. The second is to accelerate intelligent and green transformation, consolidate and enhance international competitiveness. We should pay more attention to high-end, intelligent, and green development, and win the market with hard advantages such as quality and price. To make green and low-carbon a new competitive advantage in the chemical fiber industry, and empower textile and clothing products with green and low-carbon fiber products. Promote the collaborative innovation and application of various fiber raw materials, enhance the resilience and safety level of the industrial chain supply chain. The third is to promote collaborative innovation and mutual empowerment between chemical fibers and natural fibers, strengthen the development of new technologies and products, promote the healthy and organic linkage of the chemical fiber and cotton chains, support each other, and enhance the resilience and safety level of the industrial chain supply chain. The fourth is to strengthen international cooperation in industry and trade, and build a new development pattern of mutual promotion between domestic and international circulation.

Grasping the New Positioning to Make High Quality Development More Resilient

At present, the global economy and industrial development pattern have undergone profound changes. China's chemical fiber industry is facing many development pressures and challenges, such as rising crude oil prices, sluggish downstream demand, and declining enterprise benefits. In this context, how should the chemical fiber industry promote high-quality development?

Xu Kunyuan, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Textile Industry and former Vice President of the China Textile Industry Federation, pointed out that chemical fiber now accounts for over 80% of textile raw materials, and is also an important basic material for industrial textiles. The chemical fiber industry is not only an important livelihood industry, but also a strategic emerging industry. Therefore, the chemical fiber industry needs to explore and innovate, adjust its structure, research and develop high-tech fibers, optimize its industrial system, and collaborate with upstream and downstream industrial chains to gradually achieve the goals of high-end, informatization, intelligence, and green development, and achieve high-quality development.

After the development of the 13th Five Year Plan period, China's chemical fiber industry has continued to deepen supply side structural reform, continuously promote industrial structure adjustment, and further consolidate its position and role in China's textile industry system and the global chemical fiber industry, laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive construction of a chemical fiber power. The 14th Five Year Plan period is an important opportunity period for the comprehensive construction of a chemical fiber power and achieving high-quality development. The chemical fiber industry should fully implement the new development strategy We will vigorously implement the Guiding Opinions on the High Quality Development of the Chemical Fiber Industry, strengthen independent innovation of key technologies and equipment for new fiber materials, accelerate digital transformation and upgrading, promote green and low-carbon transformation, and build a modern industrial system for high-end, intelligent, and green development in the chemical fiber industry Said Jiang Shicheng, an academician of the CAE Member.

Finding new growth points and empowering new tracks with new materials

In the new development trend, where is the new track of the chemical fiber industry?

Zhu Meifang, an academician of the CAS Member and dean of the School of Materials of Donghua University, pointed out that the fiber industry has entered a new track. The raw materials, polymerization, processing and forming processes are endowed with new concepts of technology, environmental protection and intelligence. A new generation of fibers, characterized by intelligence, super performance and green, which can play a highly permeable, subversive and transformative role in improving traditional industrial clusters, will be the research direction.

Taking carbon fiber as an example, in recent years, the demand for carbon fiber in the new energy field has grown rapidly, and the demand for domestically produced carbon fiber has significantly increased. The profit space of domestic carbon fiber enterprises continues to increase. In the future, domestic carbon fibers will have broad application prospects in high value-added fields such as aerospace, pressure vessels, and carbon/carbon composite materials. Enterprises with independent intellectual property rights and continuous innovation capabilities will take the lead in future competition.

Carbon fibers are usually combined with other materials such as resins to form composite materials, which can be used to prepare both structural materials and functional materials or materials with both structure and function. Carbon fiber preform, also known as carbon fiber fabric, is a composite material reinforcement with a specific shape formed by weaving, weaving, stitching, needle punching, and other methods using carbon fiber as the raw material. It is the "key reinforcement substrate" of composite materials. The structure and performance of prefabricated bodies directly affect the structure and performance of composite materials, and are key basic materials for advanced composite materials.

Miao Yunliang, Chairman of Jiangsu Tianniao High tech Co., Ltd., stated that carbon fiber preforms can be divided into two categories based on their structure: flat fabric preforms and three-dimensional fabric preforms. Among them, three-dimensional fabric preforms can be divided into 2.5D weaving, three-dimensional weaving, stitching, puncture, needle punching, etc., and needle punched carbon fiber preforms are widely used. Compared with 3D woven preforms, needle punched preforms have the advantages of uniform pore distribution, easy densification, high in-plane and interlayer strength, high production efficiency, low cost, and easy to achieve mass production. Its application areas include aircraft carbon brake discs, single crystal thermal equipment thermal field materials such as heat generators, insulation screens, crucibles, rocket engine combustion chambers, nozzles, etc. For example, needle punched preforms have been widely used in a wide range of domestic aircraft models, including C919 and ARJ-21.

Strengthening International Cooperation and Moving towards a Green New Era

Although the global economic recovery is not as expected, the international situation is becoming more uncertain, and the business environment is becoming difficult, experts attending the meeting all believe that we still live in a globalized and interconnected world, and cooperation is indispensable.

Fr é d é ric Van Houtevu, Chairman of the European Artificial Fiber Association, stated that despite various uncertain factors, the global (especially Asian) artificial fiber industry is recovering rapidly and production continues to grow. He believes that the overall development trend of the industry in the future is to continuously promote green development in production and consumption, such as developing clean production processes and sustainable products; The second is to accelerate the transformation to a new economy, promote digitization, automation, and intelligence, and make industry more adaptable; The third is to maintain competitive advantages such as high-quality, specialized, and efficient management structure; Fourth, continuous innovation in products, production processes, raw materials, and other aspects; The fifth is to engage in extensive international cooperation on issues such as supply chain, textile waste recycling, marine microplastics, biodegradation, and unified standards, in order to achieve a win-win situation in the global textile and chemical fiber industry.

Fuji Kenichi, Executive Vice President of the Japan Chemical Fiber Association, introduced that Japan focuses on six aspects of sustainable development: PET recycling system, "fiber fiber" recycling system, bio based chemical fibers, addressing microplastics (fiber debris) issues, carbon neutrality work, and chemical substance management. He stated that chemical fiber will support the growth of global fiber demand, with Asian chemical fiber production accounting for about 90% of global production. Therefore, the Asian chemical fiber industry will play an important role in the sustainable development of the global chemical fiber industry. We look forward to sharing information, strengthening cooperation, and increasing efforts to address sustainable development issues.

Currently, reducing carbon emissions is a global social consensus, with over 100 countries proposing or about to propose carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. Liu Yuan, Director of the Market and Innovation Development Department of the Product Certification Department of the China Quality Certification Center, believes that in the context of global green development, green trade barriers will inevitably increase in the future, such as the upcoming EU carbon tariffs, which will have an impact on Chinese enterprises' exports. The proposal of China's "dual carbon" goal will guide the revolutionary transformation of advanced manufacturing industries represented by chemical fiber new materials. In the context of carbon neutrality, the entire chemical fiber industry should focus on six types of technological routes: source reduction, finding alternative energy sources, improving processes, energy conservation and efficiency improvement, recycling, and technological carbon sequestration.
